HEY AIESEC,
On the 5th of October 2007 I got on a bus to Alcochete, for a weekend that would change not only my life but also the one of most of those around me. That was the RIMT I Católica-Nova 2007/2008, a time that still today I keep as one of the best of my life.
I was introduced to a whole new world, full of new people, new perspectives, new challenges but, most of all, new dreams.
I was assigned to the Corporate Relations team of our LC, currently known as External Relations. I accomplished a lot of things and after those conquers in my daily life, it was time to experience more of AIESEC – first other LCs, at the Discovery I 0708, at the time the biggest that had ever taken place, and then Europe, at the Western Europe and North America Leadership Development Seminar, aka WENA LDS. :)
If I was amazed by what I’d been doing daily, these experiences changed my life forever, and when I came back just wanted to do much more.
Therefore, I applied for LCP!
And as former LCP, I can honestly say that still today they are five of my favourite people in the world. During that year I also had the opportunity of discovering the rest of the world, at the International Congress 2008, in São Paulo, Brazil.
It was time for our team to move on, so I decided to run for the Member Committee of AIESEC in Portugal.
I ended up becoming the Member Committee Vice President of External Relations of AIESEC in Portugal for the term of 2009/2010.
I attended another two international conferences – EuroXpro in Romania and the International Congress 2009 in Malaysia – I decided to apply for something that had been my dream for over two years, which was to be part of the Congress Committee of AIESEC International Congress 2010, Hyderabad, India.
I was asked to become Team Leader Partner Servicing in the CC!
This time, I was managing directly for about two months a team of seven people from six nationalities other than mine – one was also Portuguese, André, my LC VP and later on successor as LCP, who ended up joining the CC closer to the conference – and a total of 31 Indian partners and 15 Global partners, accounting for a total raise of almost 2,5 million euros and clearly by far the largest project I had ever been involved with.
All these experiences have shaped me and are still shaping – I am currently on Erasmus in Athens, until next February, so I didn’t want to miss on the opportunity of being part of WeGrow 2010, an international conference that will take place here from the 11th November onwards.
Also, having been involved in all these projects has made me realise that what I want to do for living is to start my own Event Management and Production company, as that is something that will put a smile on my face every day.
I’ve travelled to eight different countries just because of AIESEC, have met people from 107 countries, have lived with 58 from 30 different ones for almost two months. I still want to do more, see more, challenge myself out of my comfort zone much, much more, because I believe that all this is not enough.
I’m now a 21-year-old girl comfortable in speaking my mind fluently in 3 languages, almost 4, who’s not afraid of making a fool of herself and that treats the world as her home.
After all, life has to have a bit of adventure otherwise it’d be just a bunch of Thursdays put together.
Have fun!
Inês
